Meet the Owners
I'm Shawna, co-owner of Sheair Butters, and I'm delighted to share my story with you. My journey in the skincare industry began in 2018 when I took a leap of faith and founded Sheair Butters. It all started with one remarkable product that I created out of love and necessity: My Everything Cream. This cream was born out of a mother's deep desire to help her daughter, who faced numerous hair and skin issues after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Witnessing her struggle inspired me to develop a solution that would make a difference, not just for her but for countless others facing similar challenges.
Before Sheair Butters, I had the privilege of running a vibrant online community called Cocoa Lounge. Back in the early 2000s, Cocoa Lounge stood as one of the largest African American-focused message boards on the internet. It was a space where people could connect, engage in meaningful conversations, and uplift one another. I cherished every moment of facilitating those discussions and fostering a sense of belonging within the community.
In 2006, I decided to venture into the world of entertainment blogging and created Brown Sista. This platform allowed me to combine my passion for writing with my love for all things entertainment. Through Brown Sista, I had the incredible opportunity to interview celebrities and collaborate with renowned companies such as Colgate Palmolive, NBC Universal, and BET. It was a thrilling experience to share their stories and promote their products and shows.
Now, as I continue on this remarkable journey, I'm grateful for the opportunity to inspire and empower individuals through Sheair Butters. Every day, I strive to provide effective skincare solutions that enhance beauty, boost confidence, and transform lives. My dedication to self-care and self-expression remains unwavering, and I'm thrilled to have you join me on this incredible adventure.
Thank you for being a part of my story, and I look forward to helping you discover the joy of healthy, radiant skin and hair through Sheair Butters!
Hi, I'm Essence and I'm a 26-year-old cancer survivor, entrepreneur, traveler, wrestling fan and actress. Let me tell you a bit about my story.
When I was 17, I was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia that turned my life upside down. I had to undergo intensive chemotherapy and radiation therapy that left me feeling weak and sick. My hair fell out and my skin became dry and irritated. I felt like I had lost a part of myself and my confidence.
But I was not alone. My mom, Shawna, was by my side every step of the way. She was my rock and my inspiration. She also had a brilliant idea: to create a natural cream that would soothe and nourish my skin and hair. She researched the best ingredients and experimented with different formulas until she came up with the perfect one. She called it My Everything Cream because it was literally everything I needed.
The cream worked wonders on me. It moisturized my skin, restored my hair and gave me a healthy glow. It also boosted my mood and made me feel more like myself again. I was so grateful to my mom for creating this amazing product that I wanted to share it with the world. We decided to start selling it online and soon we had customers from all over the country who loved it as much as we did.
My Everything Cream was not only a business venture, but also a way of giving back. We donated a portion of our profits to cancer research and support groups. We also shared our story on social media and received messages from other cancer patients and survivors who thanked us for inspiring them and making them feel beautiful.
My experience with cancer taught me a lot of things. It taught me to appreciate life, to be resilient, to follow my dreams and to never give up. It also sparked my passion for traveling and exploring new cultures. After I finished my treatment, I decided to take a gap year and travel around the world. I visited Portugal, Colombia and Mexico among other places and had the most amazing adventures. I met new people, learned new languages, tried new foods and saw incredible sights.
Traveling also opened my eyes to another passion of mine: acting. I always loved watching movies and TV shows, especially ones with strong female characters. One of my idols was Trish Stratus, the legendary wrestler and actress who starred in one of my favorite shows, Stratusfaction. She was fierce, funny and fearless. I wanted to be like her.
So when I returned from my travels, I enrolled in an acting class and started auditioning for small roles. I landed a few gigs in commercials, web series and short films. I even got to appear as an extra in a 2024 blockbuster that I can't reveal yet but trust me, it's going to be epic.
Acting is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and rejection. But it's also fun, rewarding and fulfilling. It allows me to express myself, to challenge myself and to entertain others. It's another way of sharing my story and hopefully inspiring someone else.
That's who I am: Essence. A cancer survivor, an entrepreneur, a traveler, a wrestling fan and an actress. And this is just the beginning.
